Coparmex attacks AMLO’s energy policy for blackouts

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The blackouts of recent days are the product of a policy that stopped investing, that turned its back on renewable energies and that did not opt for public-private collaboration, warned the Employers’ Confederation of the Republic Mexican (Coparmex).

“We are facing the risk that the blackouts detected yesterday in 21 states of the country will be repeated and aggravated by the current vulnerability of the National Electrical System,” the business organization warned in a statement.

Blackouts were reported in several entities in the country on Tuesday afternoon and evening after the National Energy Control Center (Cenace) declared the National Interconnected System in an “operational state of emergency.”

This Wednesday, starting at 2:46 p.m., an Operational State of Alert was declared in the national electrical system with reports of blackouts in some cities.

“At the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic we are concerned about the unprecedented energy crisis that the country is going through, characterized by blackouts detected in 21 entities due to the increase in energy demand caused by high temperatures,” says Coparmex in its release.

This situation, he said, not only affects the normal operation of Mexican companies, but also puts the safety and lives of citizens at risk in the face of extreme weather conditions.

He stated that the risk that certain areas of the Mexican Republic will face a lack of energy is a reality that has already reached the Electrical System.

“We consider that the main problem is not the increase in energy demand, but the lack of new supply of generation power plants, coupled with the low investment in transformation and transmission capacity by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). ); situations that call into question the reliability of the National Electrical System and the economic dynamism of the country,” said the Confederation.

Thus, it was considered urgent to expand the energy supply; The Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) and the National Energy Control Center (Cenace), he added, must allow the integration of new power plants, mainly from the business sector.

Dialogue tables

Coparmex asked the authorities to start dialogue tables as soon as possible to overcome the challenge of having a reliable National Electric System that promotes the well-being of Mexican homes and companies.

It is imperative that businessmen and the Government work together to ensure that Mexicans have clean, cheap electricity without blackouts, he stated.

“We also ask to guarantee the conditions for fair and transparent competition in the Electricity Sector, which will allow the companies’ investments to complement those of the CFE and contribute to the creation of a clean and affordable energy supply in Mexico, since the situation “It exceeds what can be executed with the available federal budget.”

In this sense, he noted, it is crucial that long-term auctions be reactivated that provide a platform for the sustainable development of the electricity sector and promote investment in clean and renewable technologies that contribute to the mitigation of climate change and the strengthening of security. energy of the country.
