All opportunities should be used to end conflicts and achieve peace for the sake of the future of humanity. In this sense, the COP29 event, which will be hosted by Azerbaijan in November of this year, can be a good opportunity.”
Publika.az reports that these views were expressed by Fatma Yıldırım, a member of the Milli Majlis.
The deputy said that Azerbaijan supported the cessation of military operations in the world during COP29:
“If we look at history, we will see that all large-scale global events have always been based on the philosophy of reconciliation. For example, the ideas of the Olympic movement and war are completely opposite to each other. During the Olympics, even representatives of countries in a conflict situation test their strength by participating in sports competitions. The winner necessarily shakes the hand of his opponent. This is a healthy struggle and serves to create peace in the whole world.”
According to the deputy, COP29, which will be hosted by our country, is one of the largest UN events in terms of scope:
“Tens of thousands of guests are expected to come to our country to participate in the event. At the same time, on behalf of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, letters of invitation have been sent to the heads of state and government of the countries to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Thus, on the eve of COP29, the eyes of the world will be focused on Azerbaijan. Climate It is also possible and quite realistic to stop wars during the event, which will discuss the current challenge. Our main goal and joint goals should be to make the world safer in every way.
“It is no coincidence that Azerbaijan called for peace in connection with the COP29 event. Azerbaijan very well understands the need for peace in the world. Because for many years our country and our people have suffered from the occupation policy of Armenia. After Azerbaijan, which experienced the worst consequences of the war, has fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty, it will end the war. After the end of the 44-day war, Azerbaijan presented a five-point peace package to its occupied territories states that the new realities created as a result of the 44-day war and local anti-terrorist measures have opened wide opportunities for peace, stability and trust-building in the region. Adhering to the peace agenda, Azerbaijan exhibits constructive approaches on all platforms. Even today, Azerbaijan demonstrates its commitment to the peace agenda. In addition to the fight against climate change, Azerbaijan is and will continue to make additional efforts to turn COP29 into the next success story and peace conference in the field of peace, Fatma Yıldırım said.
