A bitter draw for Lorenzo against Peru
Néstor Lorenzo said that his team was not at the level they had in the last Copa América, in the draw against Peru in Lima, but they have to “get used to it quickly” because they want to score against Argentina in the next round.
Asked at a press conference about the next opponent in the eighth round of the qualifiers, Lorenzo said that “we definitely have to improve our game, a bit of everything, we were not at the level we had in the Copa América in terms of the fluidity of the game.”
He added that this is a qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup, it is a different context, so “we have to adapt quickly because we want to add points.”
In this regard, he commented that “although the draw is not celebrated, we add points” to the final score.
Regarding the bicolor, Lorenzo, a well-known strategist in the Peruvian League, said that he knew it was going to be a tough match because they had beaten Colombia in their last two matches, in qualifiers such as in the Copa América.
“We knew that Peru’s style of play is very physical, very intense, and we had to get used to that in order to be able to dominate after a while of playing,” he noted.
In the second half, Lorenzo said that they did manage to do so, but “we didn’t manage to convert the chances we created and after the goal we played very little.”
