With great expectations, the inauguration of the 19 elected councilors in the municipality of Valledupar was carried out, and the election of the new Board of Directors of the Corporation for the period 2024. The process generated controversy and tension among some corporations, when they declared themselves in opposition parties that claim to have supported the current government.
Thus, the election process was developed and councilor Ricardo López Velera was chosen by the majority of votes as president, who will be accompanied by Manolo Fernández, first vice president, and Oswaldo José Díaz as second vice president.
The controversy arose when the first vice presidency was elected, a space that corresponds to the opposition according to the statute, and councilor Christian Moreno, the second most voted in the regional elections, aspired to occupy.

However, the declaration of the La U party as an opposition party led to the nomination of Manolo Fernández, who was finally elected, generating a controversial debate in the venue, since for many this decision would generate possible implications in the political panorama of the Municipal Council. .
Despite the conflicting opinions, the process finally developed normally, among a large group of people who filled the venue to present this historic moment.
The mayor of Valledupar, Ernesto Orozco, during his speech, once the Municipal Council was installed, invited the corporations to work in a concerted manner without divisions or political colors. The challenge is to recover Valledupar and it would only be achieved with everyone’s work.
IT WAS A ‘LITTLE PLAY’
For his part, councilor Cristhian José Moreno expressed that they played a ‘little trick’ by declaring as opposition councilor Manolo Fernández, from the U party, who evidently supported Mayor Ernesto Orozco in the last elections.
“They declared in opposition to another party that supported the current mayor in order to take away the possibility of being on the board of directors and exercising opposition,” said the councilor of the En Marcha party on his X account.
