In America they can’t differentiate that”, with this statement, in a worrying tone, Tanya Fiske understands that this is one of the reasons that motivate the creation of events, such as festivals, in which Kizomba must be perceived in a pedagogical way so that they are mistakes are avoided.
The avalanche of Americans gaining interest in Kizomba must, for the dance teacher, be in parallel with the explanation that there are other genres resulting from Kizomba, such as Guetho Zouk.
” Many Americans, and not only, say it’s the same thing. In this aspect we need to explain that it is not the same thing”, urges the interviewee.
When it comes to definitions and research, for the interviewee, things are more than clear and highlights the figure of Pedro Vieira Dias “Petchú”, a person who she considers to be responsible for the systematization of the dance style in the six different modes and styles, without forgetting to look at the role that this teacher has in the process of expanding dance around the world.
