Concert by the Latin American Orchestra of Chile

- Friday, July 19 – 6:00 p.m.
- Free.
The Latin American Orchestra of Chile (OLCh) is preparing the last concert of the 2024 season with a special program. The repertoire includes traditional music written with works by Chilean, Argentinean, and Southern Cone composers. The activity, in collaboration with the Metropolitan headquarters of Balmaceda Arte Joven (BAJ), will take place on Friday, July 19 at 6:00 p.m., at the BAJ Extension Center and is free admission.
To conclude a long season that has involved negotiations, dress rehearsals, strategic alliances and funding from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, through the Fund for the Promotion of National Music, the OLCh prepared a repertoire that brings to the fore the creative work of Isidora Zegers (Spain-Chile) and Alberto Williams (Argentina). This last performance will not only be a celebration of brotherhood and cultural wealth, but also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of preserving the musical heritage that inhabits contemporary societies.
As in previous concerts, in which performers revived the Mexican notes of Guadalupe Olmedo and Manuel María Ponce, the sounds of the Brazilian Amazon with Ciquinha Gonzaga, Alberto Nepomuceno and Heitor Villa-Lobos; along with the passion of the Venezuelan and Colombian plains with the works of María Teresa Carreño and Guillermo Quevedo Zornoza; the presentation on July 19, in addition to bringing Latin American repertoire closer, seeks inclusion, diversity and pluriculturalism, fundamental values for the OLCh reflected in the formation of its orchestra and in the selection of repertoires.
The collaboration between the OLCh and the Metropolitan headquarters of Balmaceda Arte Joven, which gives rise to the present alliance, has been managed since 2023 through the artistic residency program. This has allowed the articulation and coordination of various activities in BAJ facilities, including the 2024 concert season at the Extension Center.
The OLCh
Founded in 2022 with the mission of preserving and disseminating the invaluable musical legacy, the OLCh has established itself as a benchmark in the cultural scene. Made up of talented musicians and cultural managers from renowned academic institutions such as the Pontificia Universidad Católica and the Universidad de Chile, the orchestra has demonstrated its commitment to artistic excellence and the dissemination of sound heritage.
Open programming for diverse audiences not only provides access to cultures and arts, understood as part of public policies, but also the enrichment of the understanding and appreciation of the pieces performed through research and dissemination of the historical context, a dynamic that links the educational nature with the agenda of the OLCh.
