Compulsory training in driving schools will be abolished in Uzbekistan

From February 1, 2026, in Uzbekistan, training in driving schools will no longer be mandatory for future drivers of categories A and B. Now the theoretical part can be mastered independently, and then passed the exam in the prescribed manner, Liter.kz reports with reference to Sputnik Uzbekistan.

As noted in the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, the innovation will allow citizens to independently prepare for exams, which, according to the authorities, will reduce the cost of obtaining a driver’s license and increase the accessibility of training.

Practical training will remain mandatory – future drivers must still prove their vehicle driving skills.

“From January 1, 2026, a new category will appear in the country – A1, intended for driving mopeds and scooters. To obtain it, you will also not need training in a driving school – it will be enough to pass theoretical and practical exams directly at the traffic police authorities,” notes the source.

Another important change will come into force on April 1, 2026: penalty points will also be awarded for violations recorded by surveillance cameras.

Previously, the system of penalty points was applied only for violations identified by traffic police officers.

Along with this, experts believe that self-study can be effective for responsible candidates, but there is a risk of a decrease in the level of knowledge among those who neglect the theory.
