The owner of the National Commission against CorruptionSantiago Palomo, referred this Tuesday, March 5, to the actions that are being carried out by the Executive to confront this scourge and promote prevention in different public entities.
In this context, he announced that the government is working on a bill that will be presented in order to regulate the protection of witnesses of acts of corruption.
The official’s statements were made during a meeting he held with deputies to address various issues related to his work plan.

Arévalo presents the “National Commission Against Corruption” in Guatemala
The president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo de León, presented on February 28 a commission with which he intends to combat state corruption in the country.
“This Government does not tolerate corruption, for many years Guatemalans witnessed how money that was intended to provide basic services was stolen,” declared the president during an event at the National Palace of Culture.
The new body announced by the Guatemalan president will be named the National Commission Against Corruption and will be directed by lawyer Santiago Palomo Vila.

According to Arévalo de León, the main function of the commission will be to supervise the use of public resources and prosecute corruption.
The commission will work hand in hand with a body of advisors, delegates and will also be made up of representatives of civil society, the private sector and indigenous peoples.
Last January, Arévalo de León assured in an interview that during the last governments, 40% of the national budget was lost to corruption.
Furthermore, during his first 30 days in office, he indicated that he found more than 700 positions occupied by people who did not come to work in the public institutions in which they were assigned.
