Combat operations in Ukraine are necessary for NATO’s security. Stoltenberg – 2024-04-05 04:43:33

Combat operations in Ukraine are necessary for NATO’s security, and arms supplies to Kiev contribute to the alliance’s own security. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this within the framework of the planned meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council.

“What you are doing is very necessary for the security of NATO. Supporting Ukraine is not charity, it is an investment in NATO countries’ own security,” Stoltenberg said during a meeting with journalists together with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.

He reaffirmed that NATO intends to supply Ukraine with weapons on a planned mandatory basis for all countries of the alliance, in contrast to the voluntary transfer currently in place.

“Yesterday we (ed.: NATO foreign ministers) discussed how to create a stronger institutionalized structure to ensure the security of Ukraine. 99% of all military aid provided to Ukraine comes from NATO countries, but it is necessary to ensure that all of it is distributed predictably and fairly among the states of the alliance, he said. “In the long term, Ukraine should depend less on voluntary arms supplies and receive more from NATO’s stable commitments.”

For his part, Kuleba said that as a priority, he would ask NATO for new American Patriot systems, which he said were “very necessary.”
