Colombia, international award for Tourism Excellence in gastronomy

María Lilia Jiménez, founder of the Gachancipá Peasant Museum, received the statuette and the ‘2024 Tourism Excellence Award’ certificate in the Gourmet category, which highlights personalities, institutions and establishments that have left an unforgettable mark on the international gastronomic scene.

Since 2015, the Gachancipá Peasant Museum has been guardian of native seeds of varieties of corn, beans, broad beans, quinoa, wheat, native potatoes and grains, essential for the food sovereignty of the region, a legacy of peasant culture in the department of Cundinamarca.

The Museum operates in a house built 130 years ago and houses an experience of deep connection with peasant life. Activities are carried out there, from preparing the land to cultivate, sow, harvest, transform and apply organic fertilizers, to sustainable gastronomy, making the place an essential piece for rural and gastronomic tourism in Cundinamarca.

The award was awarded within the framework of the participation of Colombia, El País de la Belleza, in FITUR 2024, the most important tourism fair in Latin America, held in Madrid, Spain, last January.

The Vice Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo, who presented Ms. María Lilia Jiménez with the recognition, assured that “in the Government of Change, our priority is to provide support to our chefs in all their action scenarios, to consolidate and highlight our traditional flavors as the most varied and exquisite worldwide.”
