Collection centers open to support brigades

The City Council of Antigua GuatemalaSacatepéquez, announced this Thursday, February 22, that a collection center to support the brigades working to quell the Forest fire of great magnitude that is recorded in the a water volcano.

Collaboration is being requested to obtain pure water, serums, canned food and other supplies that will be used for personnel fighting the fire that has consumed large areas of vegetation and continues uncontrolled.

According to the statement released by the commune, donations that citizens can share will be received from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The place set for this is the area of ​​​​the steps of the town hall.

In assistance to the combat forces, support is requested from neighbors to obtain:

  • Pure water.
  • Oral hydration serums.
  • Dehydrated fruits.
  • Cereal bars.
  • Chocolate bars.
  • Sweets.
  • Pan.
  • Dehydrated banana / bananas.
  • Salt and sweet cookies.
  • Energy drinks.
  • Canned tuna with “easy open”.
  • Canned sausages with “easy open”.
  • Canned beans.

Another collection center

The National Council of Protected Areas (Conap) also made a request for support for forest firefighters and volunteers who are working to control and liquidate the fire on the volcano.

In that sense, he explained that a collection center was set up at the checkpoint that is located in the Municipality of Santa María de Jesús, Sacatepéquez. In this you can donate:

  • Pure water.
  • Cold portions: cans of tuna, beans, sardines.
  • Non-perishable foods for immediate consumption; juices, cookies, among others.

Actions to fight the fire

Guatemalan authorities are fighting a forest fire on the Agua volcano, located in the west of the country.

An immediate response fire brigade was mobilized by the Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) to the municipality of Santa María de Jesús, in the department of Sacatepéquez, to attend to the emergency, as reported by this institution in a press release.

Due to the magnitude of the incident, the National Forest Institute (Inab) and the National Council of Protected Areas (Conap) have joined the control tasks.
