Coffee school is strengthened in Chaguarpamba –

The Municipal GAD of Chaguarpamba, in collaboration with the Prefecture of Loja, promotes the coffee school through workshops. On June 6, more than 20 coffee farmers received training on “Soil Fertility” to improve coffee production.

The workshop addressed topics related to soil characteristics, such as the amount of nutrients needed by crops, specifically coffee. Likewise, the importance of fertilizing the soil to nourish plants and improve production levels was analyzed.

Regarding the improvement of soil conditions, the use of organic matter that provides microbial life, retention of water, salts and minerals to achieve optimal fertility was highlighted, according to Pablo Soto Ludeña, technician of the prefecture, he also pointed out that The institution has a soil laboratory where producers can send samples to determine their fertility and identify the elements they are missing.

Ignacio Leiva, member of the coffee school, highlighted the importance of focusing on the agricultural sector, since coffee represents economic hope. The goal now is to produce quality coffee to obtain better income.

The training carried out is part of the coffee grower school project, which offers monthly sessions and brings together more than 20 producers who, at the end of this year, 2024, will obtain a certification. (YO)
