Strong gusts of wind are expected on the coast this evening, tonight and tomorrow morning. The KNMI will issue code orange next night for North Holland and the Wadden area. In the rest of the Netherlands the wind is less extreme and code yellow applies.

At a local level, there is fear of damage and dangerous situations due to falling trees and flying objects. Wind gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour are possible in North Holland and the Wadden Islands. At its peak, force 9 winds are expected on the north-west coast. If the wind strength continues for at least an hour, Storm Isha will become a reality.

Code orange applies on Mondays from 2:00 to 8:00 and only in North Holland and the Wadden area. Rijkswaterstaat says road users should take extra care during the night and during parts of the morning rush hour. Wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour are expected inland. The stormy weather will pass quickly during the morning, KNMI reports.

Code orange is issued by the KNMI if there is a high risk of dangerous or extreme weather conditions, with a high impact and risk of damage. The general advice is: prepare yourself.

Canceled flights

KLM will cancel 65 return flights tonight and tomorrow morning. Due to the weather forecast there are fewer jobs available at Schiphol, says an airline spokesperson. This concerns flights to destinations in Europe.

The NS has not yet taken any measures, reports regional broadcaster NH. The storm is also expected to have no influence on the timetable on the ferry service between Den Helder and Texel.

The ferry between IJmuiden and Newcastle is late and arrives in the British city around two hours later. “When the weather is bad, the ship goes back up the English coast, and that’s the case again,” the director of the ferry service told NH.

Code red in Ireland

The UK, Ireland, Germany and Belgium will also experience storms. Tonight code red applies to the west of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Code orange applies to Scotland, Wales and parts of England. Meteorological services warn of power outages, high waves on the coast and dangerous situations on the roads, writes Sky News. More than fifty flights were canceled at Dublin Airport.
