The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) has registered 8,993 missing people, according to the complaints it has received for 17 years.
However, these disappearances occurred between 1953 and 2023.
When presenting the Special Report: Geostatistical Study of the Attention of the National Human Rights Commission to Missing Persons, he pointed out that the number of cases is much lower than the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO), – which amounts to 112 a thousand people-.
This is due to the fact that the organization only reports those that arise from complaints submitted to the CNDH in the National Information System for Missing and Unidentified Deceased Persons (SINPEF), created in 2007.
“In the Archive of the Missing Persons Program (PERDES) there are 7,544 SINPEF files. In them, 8,993 missing people are recognized, of which 1,716 correspond to possible forced disappearances.
“This identification derives both from collaborations to locate people, and from the narration of events made by the families who filed a complaint with this National Commission,” the document reads.
The CNDH added that between 2009 and 2011, disappearances tripled, reaching 1,944 cases in a single year, which corresponded to the disappearance of members of organizations such as the Party of the Poor and the September 23 Communist League. .
Later between 2019 and 2021, the National Commission documented 2,146 missing people.
And this increase in SINPEF records was due to cases from previous years that had not been counted.
It should be noted that the largest record of missing persons in the seventies amounted to 216 people, in 1974 alone.
“Increased peaks are identified, the first in 1974, the year in which there is evidence of the institutionalization of forced disappearance. This, during the period of state political violence. A situation that continues until the 90s and is explained by the continuity of the PRI in power and the repressive strategy of that time,” said the CNDH.
