Club Brugge is having a mediocre season in the Jupiler Pro League, but has made its mark in the Conference League. Many players have thus been able to put themselves under the spotlight of various European clubs. Also Maxim De Cuyper.
The now 23-year-old full-back is a thoroughbred from Blauw-Zwart. He joined the Club in 2008 and has played in almost all the youth teams. De Cuyper also left a very promising impression at Club Nxt with his physical and technical qualities.
In 2020 he was rewarded with his official debut in the shirt of the Blauw-Zwart top team, against the great Manchester United. But despite a solid performance, that performance wasn’t immediately followed up. And so a temporary solution was sought elsewhere.
Detour via Westerlo
De Cuyper was eventually leased to KVC Westerlo for two years. It turned out to be a great move. The full-back has really blossomed at Kempen, last season he even became one of the great revelations on Belgian pitches.
In the summer he was given a new chance at the Club. And he grabbed the youth product with both hands. Partly due to Bjorn Meijer’s injury, De Cuyper quickly secured a starting place under manager Ronny Deila, and is now considered a permanent strongman.
Red Devil and top market?
These good performances did not go unnoticed elsewhere. He was already part of the Red Devils’ pre-selection and is increasingly linked to his first real selection. Now it seems that his name also appears in the scouting reports of some foreign clubs.
Here and there, De Cuyper has even been linked with a spectacular move to Paris Saint-Germain. But transfer market Sacha Tavolieri now reports that there are no contacts with the French champion at the moment.
Great match in Germany
However, the young Belgian could count on interest from several Bundesliga teams. A competition that should suit him given his qualities. However, a winter departure is not an option. De Cuyper will normally complete the season at Club Brugge, which has now also been confirmed to this editor. But the new sporting director will have his hands more than full keeping him on board next summer.
🇧🇪🔴🔵 There is – at the moment – no concrete discussion regarding the arrival of Maxim De Cuyper at the #PSG.
The Belgian left side #Clubbrugge it is, however, still popular in #Bundesliga🇩🇪 but he should end the season well with the Blauw&Zwart.
