Every day in the hospitals of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Coahuila, an average of 41 infants are received and enter the world; The majority are full-term pregnancies that are achieved thanks to adequate prenatal control, which translates into a newborn in good condition and a rapid recovery in the mothers.
In 2023, 15,154 live births of babies were registered in the IMSS medical units, and the majority were due to good adherence to the various programs that the institution provides to this sector of the population.
The IMSS hospitals with the highest birth rate in the state are the General Zone Hospital (HGZ) No. 1 of Saltillo, 4,639 infants were born; in HGZ No. 16 in Torreón there were 3,437; while in HGZ No. 7 of Monclova, the registration was 2,161, due to the number of eligible population they serve.
Within the framework of Mother’s Day, the assistant coordinator of Second Level of Care attached to the Head of Medical Benefits Services (JSPM), Claudia Rodríguez Vázquez, highlighted the importance of medical follow-up at this stage of life, since it It contributes greatly to ensuring that the pregnancy goes smoothly and that during childbirth the possibilities of problems or complications in the health of the mother-child pair are minimized.
He explained that pregnant women who go to medical units receive extensive information about the resources that the IMSS allocates for them before and after giving birth and, likewise, they are told about the contraceptives they can use after birth.
When the beneficiary opts for definitive methods, such as salpingoclasia, the surgical intervention is performed immediately after delivery. In the case of those who still want to have children, the most widely accepted method of birth control is the intrauterine device, she commented.
The doctor stressed that in addition to wanting to be a mother, it is important to be prepared for it, which is why she suggested before pregnancy to go to the doctor to carry out a health study so that it develops in the best possible conditions.
