Climate Biennale Vienna: “Save the climate with art” – 2024-04-20 01:31:00

oekostrom AG podcast with Sithara Pathirana and Claudius Schulze

Vienna (OTS) At “Friday in the arena“, the talk format of oekostrom AG, in the 59th episode, board member Ulrich Streibl speaks with Sithara Pathirana and Claudius Schulze, the artistic director of the 1st Climate Biennale Vienna, about the role of art in the climate crisis and why the art festival allows them to look positively into the future.

The Climate Biennale Vienna is not only a 100-day art festival, but also a place where people listen to each other, develop ideas and be inspired. The event was launched by the City of Vienna and the KunstHausWien in order to use the entire urban space and to use art, design, architecture and science to deal with a sustainable, livable future. “We want to have set something in motion at the end of the Vienna Climate Biennale and actively invite people to think together about a climate-friendly future,” said the two leaders of the Climate Biennale Vienna. In addition, the Climate Biennale Vienna is here to stay – it will be back in two years: “We want to build on this foundation and save the climate and the future together.” The event program offers insights into a future that is not based on renunciation, but in which things are rethought.

Pathirana and Schulze further explain the role of art in the climate crisis: “Art, like the economy, politics and science, is at the core of social coexistence. What art can do well is to build something from the facts of science and the economic situation that is expressed through emotionality. The Climate Biennale Vienna is about bringing together opinions and people, which creates great strength,” said Claudius Schulze.
