The legislator Claudio Vina has expressed concern about the growing number of Dengue cases in Argentina, particularly in the province of Tucumán. In recent statements, Viña pointed out that “we see with concern that Dengue infections are increasing day by day in the country, and fundamentally in the province.”

The Minister of Health of Tucumán, Medina Ruiz, reported that 650 laboratory cases of Dengue have been confirmed. However, Viña emphasized that this figure could be considerably higher, since many people do not have access to a professional diagnosis.

Given this situation, the legislator has presented a bill so that the Dengue vaccine is administered free of charge in the province. Viña highlighted that the Qdenga vaccine, recently approved by ANMAT, is highly effective in preventing the disease. However, its high cost and the need for a second dose make it inaccessible to the majority of Tucumans.

Viña warned about the risks of Dengue, especially the hemorrhagic variant that can arise in the second infection, turning the disease into a threat to people’s lives.

The bill proposes the creation of a voluntary and free Provincial Vaccination Schedule to protect all those who need the vaccine but cannot afford it. Viña emphasized that it is unlikely that the vaccine will be included in the national vaccination schedule, given the disparity in the prevalence of Dengue in different regions of the country.

However, Viña highlighted that provinces such as Salta and Misiones are already providing the vaccine for free, each with their own methods. In this sense, the legislator urged the Health Commission of the Honorable Legislature to address this problem urgently, so that in the first ordinary session of the year the necessary tools can be provided to the Executive Branch to acquire and supply the vaccine against Dengue.
