At least 15 people, including a woman, were injured in a clash between residents of two villages over a cricket game in Narail’s Kalia upazila.
The clash took place between Sheikh Farid Uddin and Nasir Uddin factions at Babra village of Babra-Hachla union of the upazila at around 10:30 am on Saturday (April 13).
The injured have been admitted to Upazila Health Complex and Sadar Hospital.
According to police and local sources, on Friday (April 12) around 5:00 pm, Sohag (30), son of Syed Shahid Ali of that village, and Nabil (22), son of Imrul Sheikh, had an argument and fight over the cricket game. Later others in the field stopped them.
As a result of this incident, the marriage ceremony of the son of Sabu Sheikh, a supporter of Nasir Uddin, was being organized around 10:30 am on Saturday. Meanwhile, the people of Sheikh Farid Uddin’s side attacked with indigenous weapons and both sides got into a clash. After about half an hour, the police came and brought the situation under control. At least 15 people were injured on both sides.
The injured are, brave freedom fighter Monirul Islam (78), Sakibul Khan (35), Farzana (20), Kalpana Begum (45), Akhtaruzzaman (65), Ashrafuzzaman (32), Sajal Sheikh (28), Sabbir Sheikh (31), Jasim Sheikh (33) and many others.
Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandkar Shamim Uddin said, the police are on the spot. The situation in the area is calm now. Neither party has yet filed a written complaint. Action will be taken as per law if complaints are received.
