Civil Protection issues a heavy rain warning for BH on the last day of 2023

On the last day of 2023, the capital of Minas Gerais could be hit by storms with lightning and wind. The Civil Protection of Belo Horizonte has issued a warning to the city about what could happen until 8 am this Monday (1). In the late afternoon of this Sunday (31/12), it is already raining heavily in Barreiro and the regions of the West, Northwest and Pampulha are also experiencing rainfall. At around 5.30pm the rain was moderate in Barreiro and light in other locations.

The agency estimates a possible rainfall volume of between 30 and 50 millimeters, with winds that could reach 50 kilometers per hour.

To avoid major problems with thunderstorms, the Civil Protection provides important recommendations:

– Double your attention! Avoid flood areas and do not travel on roads subject to flooding or near streams and rivers during heavy rain.

– Do not cross flooded roads and do not let children play in floodwaters or near streams

– Do not take shelter or park vehicles under trees

– Pay particular attention to slopes and hills

– Never get close to broken electrical cables. Call Cemig (116) or Civil Protection (199) immediately.

– If you notice cracks in the walls of houses or the appearance of cracks, depressions or water mines on the ground, immediately notify the Civil Protection
