Citizens in Sinop Demanded an Increase in the Minimum Wage

MUSTAFA MASTER

(SİNOP) – Citizens living in Sinop reacted to the statements of AKP members that there will be no increase in the minimum wage by saying, “People’s purchasing power has become difficult, I wonder how people will make a living like this. I don’t know, thefts will increase, shamelessness will increase. I don’t know if people will eat each other anymore.”

Citizens living in Sinop reacted to the statements of Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan and AK Party Deputy Chairman Hamza Dağ that there would be no increase in the minimum wage in July. Citizens’ evaluations are as follows:

“I believe that there should be an interim increase for civil servant retirees and the minimum wage”

Kenan Lesson: “The minimum wage definitely needs to be increased. Because the difference between the prices in January and July was 50-60 percent, and in some items it reached 100 percent. Naturally, the 17 thousand TL salary has greatly reduced the purchasing power. Therefore, in the worst case scenario, an increase of around 25-30 thousand TL is needed. The chicken bought for 100 TL became 150, the minced meat that was 300 TL became 500-600. But the minimum wage is fixed. In addition, an interim increase in the minimum wage is definitely needed. Also, retired civil servants are very victimized. How will they get by on a salary of 10-13 thousand TL? I worked in the public sector for 40 years, I do not want to say how much I earn. Therefore, I believe and think that an interim increase is needed for retired civil servants and the minimum wage.”

“Purchasing power was better 20 to 30 years ago. But everything has been terrible for the last 20 years.”

Sezgin Küçük: “Living conditions are very difficult, everything has become very expensive and the minimum wage needs to be increased. As an employer, I am also in favor of this. I have been a tradesman for about 40 years, I am going through the most difficult period of my life as a tradesman. 20-30 years ago, purchasing power was much better. “Everything was much better, but everything has been terrible for the last 20 years. I think the minimum wage should be above the hunger line,” he said.

“Where is this state?”

Ibrahim Coskunarslan: “Of course the minimum wage should be increased because living conditions have become difficult. People’s purchasing power has become difficult, I wonder how people will get by like this. I don’t know if theft will increase, shamelessness will increase. I don’t know if people will eat each other anymore. May God help us in these living conditions, what can we say. A house rent is already 12 thousand TL, how can a person get by on 7-8 thousand TL? This minimum wage should be 30 thousand TL at the worst so that we don’t starve. How will I get by if my wife doesn’t work and only I work? Where is this state?

Gülendam Tümer: “There needs to be an interim increase in the minimum wage. Living conditions have become very difficult, the salaries of people who live on a single salary, house rent, those who educate their children, etc. are not enough at all. It should be at least 35 thousand TL.”
