Citibanamex donated 7 million pesos to the Palacio de Bellas Artes for rehabilitation due to subsoil collapses

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The Palace of Fine Arts received seven million pesos for its reinforcement against subsoil collapse and earthquakes, Citibanamex reported.

Cultural Promotion Citibanamex responded to Process that the work to rehabilitate and preserve the Fine Arts infrastructure was carried out between August 2021 and May of this year.

The restoration works were under the supervision of the Directorate of Architecture and Conservation of Immovable Artistic Heritage (DACPAI) of INBAL; the Conservation and Works area of ​​the Management of the Palace of Fine Arts; the INBA AC Foundation, and Norma Laguna y Asociados, SC, was reported in a statement.

The seven million pesos contributed by the bank was through Fomento Social Citibanamex AC, and was destined to:

  • Rehabilitation, conservation and restoration of the central dome and the west semi-dome.
  • Structural reinforcement in the foundations of the east and west porticos, as well as general releveling of surrounding surfaces and stairs.
  • Replacement of wooden floors in the Museum of Architecture.

Regarding the approach for this donation, Citibanamex informed Process what:

“The National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature presented an intervention proposal to the Harp Foundation and Fomento Social Citibanamex to address the deterioration of the infrastructure of the Palace of Fine Arts, due to its sinking and cracking.

“We saw this project with great pleasure and empathy since it allowed us to contribute to the preservation of one of the most important and culturally symbolic buildings in Mexico City.”

Last February, on the occasion of a call by the bank for the “Art and Culture Development Program”, it was reported that Fomento Social Citibanamex AC has invested nearly 44 million pesos in conservation and restoration projects of different venues affected by the 2017 earthquakes in the Palace of Fine Arts, the Pinacoteca de la Profesa in Mexico City, the Temple of Santiago Apóstol, in Oaxaca, and the former Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, in Chiapas, among others.
