184 businessmen have been designated as Commercially Important Persons or CIPs in recognition of their significant contribution to the export trade. Among them, 140 have been awarded CIP (Exports) and 44 business leaders have been awarded CIP (Trade). They have received this award for their contribution to exports in 2022. Among them, three of the country’s leading industrial conglomerate PRAN-RFL Group have received the CIP award.
On Thursday (May 9), State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu handed over CIP (Export and Trade) cards to the country’s renowned exporters and their representatives at a hotel in the capital.
This year, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Director of Pran Dairy in the Agricultural Processed Products (Unit) category, Uzma Chowdhury, Director of RFL Group in the Light Engineering Products (Group) category and Rathindra Nath Pal, MD of Allplast Bangladesh, RFL’s export-oriented company, received the award in the Plastic Products category. Kamruzzaman Kamal, Marketing Director of PRAN-RFL Group accepted the award on behalf of Ahsan Khan Chowdhury.
According to the policy, for 2022, 18 out of 22 sectors are awarded CIP (Export) and 44 CIP (Trade) in 18 goods and services sector and ‘C’ category under EPZ. This year, a total of 328 applications were received in 20 sectors related to goods and services. No applications were found in the Melamine and Shipbuilding Industry sector. An application from the tea sector is considered ineligible as the export income is below the minimum income.
The CIP (Export)-2022 card will be issued in the presence of exporters, business leaders, government officials, dignitaries and media representatives. CIP (Exports) is selected for a period of one year for contribution to the export sector.

Businessmen selected as CIP (Exports) get entry pass and car sticker for entry to Bangladesh Secretariat, invitation to national events and civic receptions of municipal corporations, priority seat reservation in government vehicles for business travel by air, rail, road and water, letter of introduction for business travel abroad. On receipt, the selected CIP gets preferential access to cabins in government hospitals and use of VIP Lounge-II at the airport for his wife, son, daughter and himself for treatment.
A government-issued CIP card holder can project his personal and institutional acceptance with trust and reputation to foreign buyers, which contributes positively to the country’s overall export expansion besides strengthening his business relationships.
Among the nominated CIPs (exports and trade) sector-wise for goods or services, raw jute 2, jute products 4, leather goods 6, frozen food 4 and ready-made garments (oven) 18 have been nominated. Besides, agricultural products 5, agroprocessing 5, light engineering products 4, pharmaceutical products 3, handicraft products 4, specialized or hometextile products 4, ready-made garments (knitwear) 34, ceramic products 1, plastic products 4, textiles (fabrics) 7, computer software 2, furniture 1, miscellaneous goods 27 and 5 in ‘C’ category under EPZ have become CIP. At the same time, 44 people have been nominated for CIP (trade category) among the business leaders.
Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, presided over the CIP card distribution ceremony. FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam and Export Development Bureau Vice Chairman AHM Ahsan and others were present as special guests.
