Lithuania’s main airport has been closed due to illegal cigarette smuggling from Belarus to gasboloons. Authorities were forced to close the airport for a few hours when the gasbolun, carrying thousands of packets of cigarettes, fell into the sky of Lithunia, the capital of Lithunia. As a result, more than 3,000 passengers suffer.
Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Center (NCMC) said at least 20 gasbelons from Belarus entered the Lithuania sky, two of which arrived directly to the airport.
Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service said that at least 3,000 packets of illegal cigarettes were recovered in the balloons. More balloons are thought to be found. So far this year, 4 balloons from Belarus have entered the sky of Lithuania. Last year, the number was 1.
In addition to Lithuania, hundreds of such trafficking have been detected in the northeastern Podlaski region of Poland. Last month, a Belarus citizen arrested the police whose mobile GPS tracker was found on the mobile.
The airline authorities have commented that ‘Airspace Violation’ has occurred in the aircraft.
According to experts, smugglers are using gasbelons as they are much cheaper than drones.
