The court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police to re-investigate the case of attempted murder of college student Limon in Jhalkathi.
The court passed this order after Limon’s mother Henwara Begum protested the final report of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) against the six RAB members.
Judge AHM Imranur Rahman Naraji of the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Jhalkathi gave this order after hearing the application on Wednesday (February 28) at 12 noon.

According to the documents of the case, on March 23, 2011, the then college student Limon Hossain was shot dead while the members of Barisal RAB-8 were conducting an operation against terrorists in Saturia village of Rajapur upazila of Jhalkathi. Later, Limon’s left leg had to be amputated at the knee. In this incident, Limon’s mother became a plaintiff and on April 10, 2011, the then DAD of Barisal RAB-8 Lutfar Rahman, Corporal Mazharul Islam, Constable Abdul Aziz, Naik Muktadir Hossain, Sainik Prahallad Chand and Sainik Kartik Kumar Biswas, an attempted murder case in Jhalkathi court in the name of six other RAB members. Filed a case.
SI Abdul Halim Talukder of Rajapur police station investigated the case and submitted the final report to the court on August 14, 2012. The report recommended the exemption of RAB members. Limon’s mother Henoara Begum objected to the report. The court dismissed his appeal. After that, Henwara Begum filed a revision application against the dismissal order on March 18, 2013 in the District and Sessions Judge Court. On April 1, 2018, Additional District and Sessions Judge SKM Tofail Hasan granted the revision.
After the revision was granted, Senior Judicial Magistrate Salim Reza directed the PBI on 22 April 2018 to investigate the case. After a long investigation, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of PBI Head Office Aminul Islam again submitted the final report to the court on September 17, 2022.
The PBI said in the report that Limon was shot, but no eyewitness evidence was found as to who shot him. The case will be revived in future if evidence is available. Limon’s mother Henwara Begum protested against this final report on December 5, 2022. Limon’s mother claims that her son was not a terrorist. A good boy was shot and crippled by a RAB. He demanded fair and proper justice for this incident.
Limon Hossain, who lost a leg in the alleged RAB gunfight, passed his HSC in 2013, graduated in law in 2018 and completed his post-graduation in 2019. Later in 2020, he joined the job as Assistant Lecturer in the Law Department of Savar Public University. In 2022, Limon married a college student from Jessore’s Abhaynagar police station.
Limon Hossain said, RAB unjustly shot and crippled me. It is true that I have finished my studies with the love of people with much difficulty, but I cannot forget the pain of losing my leg. As long as I live, I will demand justice for those who crippled me.
