In the San Genaro human settlement, Chorrillosthe neighbors dreamed with a top -level sports complex. Today, there is only one abandoned structure that reflects unfulfilled promises. The work, which promised a stadium with capacity for 16,000 people, athletic track, multiple halls and parking, it was not completed and is currently a deteriorated structure, with crooked columns, rusty iron and cracked walls.
The construction began in 2012 during the management of the Exalcalde Augusto Miyashiro Yamashiro, who was later sentenced by incompatible negotiation. Since then, more than S/25 million public resources have been allocated, according to the Ministry of Economy. Of that amount, S/17 million were spent between 2012 and 2018. The rest was disbursed during the municipal government of his son, who assumed the position in 2019.
However, the current administration found serious deficiencies when resuming the project. The main problem was the absence of a technical file, an essential document for the proper execution of any public works. This resulted in serious structural errors, such as unstable bases, poorly used materials and a defective distribution of architectural elements.

In 2023, the Municipality hired a consultancy for S/800,000 to evaluate the status of the project. The report was overwhelmed: the work presents stability problems, cracks in floors and walls, and an inappropriate structural configuration. In addition, the ground where it was built does not meet the necessary conditions.
During the Covid-19 Pandemia, the space was used as a food distribution center. Currently, it serves as a warehouse, without defined use for the community. According to the Municipality of Chorrillosit is expected to finish the complete technical file in June of this year, with the intention of reactivating the project.
Meanwhile, neighbors live with dust, heavy machinery noise and frustration. Luz Lozano, resident of the area, affirms that the work has brought more discomfort than benefits. For his part, Pablo Guillén acknowledges that the intention was good, but the execution failed. “The first stone placement ceremony was made, but it never ended”, He says.
