Late last month NVIDIA launched the special Chinese version of the GeForce RTX 4090D. Even though we already know that the performance of this model will be worse than the regular version of the RTX 4090, you may still be curious about its actual performance. Chinese media finally announced. According to relevant test reports, overall performance is around 6% slower and considering that CUDA is 10.9% slower, that’s actually quite acceptable.
China-exclusive RTX 4090D graphics card has been tested, and the games and AI are about 6% slower than the regular version
To make the RTX 4090 compliant with US regulations and continue to be sold in China, NVIDIA created a special version exclusive to China by reducing some specifications, such as reducing the number of CUDA cores from the original 16384 to 14592 , and the SM unit from 128. The number of groups has been changed to 114, the number of Tensor cores has been reduced from 512 to 456, and the number of RT cores has been reduced from 128 to 114, so performance has be worse.
The following is the test platform of the Chinese media Expreview, equipped with an Intel Core i9-13900KS processor and the operating system is Microsoft Windows 11 64bit build 23H2:
The first is the 3DMark test. Expreview tested all modes. On average, the RTX 4090D is about 6.7% slower than the RTX 4090. The gap isn’t huge:
A total of 15 4K games were tested. First, without ray tracing enabled, it was no surprise that there was no pressure on the RTX 4090D. Each of them can provide a great gaming experience. Compared to the RTX 4090, rasterized game performance is only 5.5% slower:
After turning on light tracing, the average is only 5.8% lower. Expreview also stated that the FPS difference in real games is actually very small:
Next is the AI test, using the UL Procyon AI Inference Benchmark mode and using the NVIDIA TensorRT API. The performance gap between single precision and double precision is about 5% slower, and overall performance is only 3% slower. This part is not much different:
In the Stable Diffusion + TRT test, only 512×512 has a slightly larger gap, reaching 10%. In 768×768 and 1024×1024 resolutions, RTX 4090 and RTX 4090D are almost the same:
It’s worth noting that the RTX 4090D can still be slightly overclocked at the 425W TGP setting. Expreview successfully boosted the GPU core to 200 MHz and passed the 3DMark Time Spy test:
Overall, then, the RTX 4090D is still a great flagship graphics card, just slightly behind the RTX 4090 in all aspects of performance.
Now the price of the RTX 4090 is too high. For gamers, the CP value of the RTX 4090D will be much higher. Some people may not be happy that NVIDIA has priced this card at the same price as the RTX 4090, but even in Taiwan or China In other countries, it is completely impossible to buy the RTX 4090 at the original price and requires a significant price increase , so for me this is a false problem, so I don’t have to be dissatisfied.
I think it will be very difficult to buy the RTX 4090 at the original price this year.
