The Government of Chile announced the promulgation of a “comprehensive law to prevent, punish and eradicate violence against women”, which comes after seven years of processing.
“The women of Chile will have a comprehensive law, a regulation that our Government reactivated and prioritized to generate a public policy that establishes obligations to prevent, punish and eradicate violence against women based on their gender,” the Chilean Executive informed through your profile on the social network X.
The promulgation of this law, the Government claims, “represents the commitment of the Chilean State to a life free of violence for women,” and its purpose is ultimately “to move towards a Chile for all.”
To this end, the text identifies four fundamental pillars. These are: “guarantee due access to Justice and assistance (…) for victims”, “strengthen precautionary measures and their surveillance”, “consider girls, boys and adolescents as direct victims of the violence experienced by their mothers” and “create an integrated case management and monitoring system.”
After the announcement, the head of the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality, Antonia Orellana, noted that the promulgation of the law “has been a long-term work” and thanked “all those who have been part” of the process. “We did it!” She celebrated with a message published on the same platform.
