A Chilean documentary about the xenophobic outbreak in Iquique has won an award in France.
This is “Si vas para Chile”, which participated in the official selection of the Impact Campaigns Pitch, in the 35th version of Sunny Side of the Doc, which took place in La Rochelle, France, between June 24 and 27.
The documentary project, directed by Amilcar Infante, Sebastián González and produced by Sebastián González and Esteban Sandoval, received the Best Impact Movies Award.
This award consists of digital strategy mentoring to optimize the reach and influence of the documentary, through two consulting and monitoring sessions, valued at three thousand euros.
“The migration problem is universal and a challenge in our times that we will have to take charge of. This award reflects an interest in making an unknown face of the issue visible internationally, seeking to connect with affected communities and contribute to the decriminalization of migration,” says Sebastián González, one of the producers of the documentary.
The documentary focuses on what happened in 2021 in northern Chile, when one of the most shocking xenophobic demonstrations in the region was witnessed, when a march culminated in the burning of tents and belongings of foreign families in Iquique.
Their images travelled around the world, but not the stories of those affected. This choral account is the living testimony of those who continue to enter despite the adversities, and inhabitants of the territory who live in the midst of a growing social conflict, the harshness of the Atacama Desert and the Andean Altiplano.
