Three days of national mourning are declared in Chile

He president Gabriel Boric, after declaring three days of national mourning, moved to Cañete, in the Bíobío region, to address the situation. The minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, condemned the attack and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to seeking peaceful solutions in the Southern Macrozone. However, she stressed that this act will not set back peace efforts.

On the other hand, right-wing opposition figures, such as Evelyn Matthei, demanded that the Government assume responsibilities and adopt forceful measures against terrorism in the south of the country. José Antonio Kast, leader of the hard right, went even further by requesting the declaration of a state of siege and the dismissal of Minister Tohá.
