A baby lying in her crib stands out on the upper right arm of Andrés ‘Pollo’ López. The tattoo has a heavenly meaning for the right marker of Deportivo Cuenca. It represents his sister who left for eternity almost three decades ago.

I don’t remember her. I was two years old. If one could go back in time I would like it to be here, but hey, these are things that only God knows why. Surely, from heaven, he must be enjoying my achievements, my joys. I have a daughter that I named after her: Salomé.

One of his latest achievements was breaking the record as the player with the most games in the history of Expreso Austral. He highlights the support of his family to remain active in the First Division.

«I became the youngest Ecuadorian player to reach 200 games. Now breaking a record at the Club is something that has a big impact on me personally, on my wife, on my daughter, who are part of this entire team.”

In 2024, if he maintains last year’s consistency, he will approach 300 games with the red shirt. He is sure that no matter how much experience he has, every year he always has to earn a position.

«Thank God I have never had serious injuries. “One has to value oneself a lot, take care of the life one leads, rest, food, psychologist, all that goes hand in hand.”

López studies for the future

On February 4, López turned 31 years old. Before football left him, he already began to plot his future. In a year he will have the title of technical director.

«In football when you go over 30 they start to see you a little old, but in life you are young. The truth is I would like to continue in football, I think I couldn’t do something that is not related to football. The issue of representation also draws my attention, the issue of sports director.«.

López defended the colors of Deportivo Cuenca from the age of 13, always with the support of his family. He is a fan of tattoos. Every two, three years he tries to get one.

The first tattoo was made at 16 years old. The last was the tree of life “for the family, for my wife, for my daughter.”

Under the baby’s tattoo it is written: You taught me the right way to live, I will have to choose the right way to die. “Our parents always show us the right path and one chooses whether he wants the path of good or evil.”

You already have a space reserved for a drink. “My biggest dream is to become champion with Cuenca, it is the dream I long for the most and I hope this year to work with the entire group to be able to fulfill it.”
