Chechnya has a peculiar law restricting what music is allowed. The Russian national anthem may also be banned

“Today, an extended meeting was held with the leaders of the creative state and municipal groups of the Chechen Republic, during which the final decision was announced, agreeing with the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov, that in the future all musical, vocal and choreographic works should correspond to a tempo of 80 to 116 beats per minute,” Chechnya said. Ministry of Culture of the Republic.

The ministry also added that a huge amount of work is being done on the task of the head of the Chechen Republic on the question of the conformity of Chechen musical, vocal and choreographic works to the Chechen mentality and the musical rhythm of the performed works.

Meanwhile, “Meduza” has delved into what jobs the new law and restrictions will affect.

The tempo of 80 BPM is relatively slow for songs, for example, the song “Without a Fight” by the Ukrainian group “Okean Elzy” sounds at approximately the same tempo (82 BPM).

116 beats per minute is, for example, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”.

At the same time, a very large proportion of musical works do not fall within the narrow range of 80-116 beats per minute.

For example, below the 80 BPM limit is the anthem of the Russian Federation (76 BPM). Above the limit of 116 BPM is Lev Leshchenko’s song “Victory Day” (126 BPM).
