Charles Conwell KO win to extend record undefeated boxer 20-0 to open up a super welterweight title shot. Charles Conwell stole the boxing world’s attention when he defeated Khiary Gray at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Conwell used the opportunity to score a second-round knockout, landing a body shot that dropped Khiary Gray for a 10-count. The win earned Charles Conwell the right to rank alongside Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Serhii Bohachuk.

“I believe I’m the next world champion in this division. I think I’m the one in this division,” Conwell said in a post-fight press conference at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

“For me to prove that, if I have to face them, Vergil, Bohachuk, whoever it is, any other contender, I’m willing to do it. I saw the fight tonight and I saw a world title in my hand. I think they’re good fighters, but I think I’m a level above them,” he said.

Conwell’s performance was welcomed by boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya, who called his fighter a great prospect at super welterweight. “Charles Conwell was incredible,” promoter Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions said after the fight. “He’s ready to fight for a world title, and we’re going to go after him.”

The 140-pound super welterweight division once belonged to Jermell Charlo, who was the undisputed champion. But he has since vacated or been stripped of all four of his world titles.

This has opened the door for names like Bohachuk, Terence Crawford (who currently holds the WBA world title), Sebastian Fundora (WBC and WBO), Israil Madrimov, Bakhram Murtazaliev (IBF), Ortiz and Tim Tszyu. Perhaps Charlo, who was last seen moving up two weight classes to challenge Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2023, could return to 145 pounds.
