Charity director says workers killed in Gaza were targeted ‘car by car’, Israel denies – 2024-04-06 09:55:55

The head of the charitable “World Central Kitchen” organization, famous chef Jose Andres, said that the 7 humanitarian workers who died in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli attack were targeted “systematically, car by car”. He said this in an interview with Reuters.

Andres claims that his charity has maintained clear communication with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which has learned of the humanitarian workers’ movements.

“This wasn’t just a random situation where, oh, we dropped a bomb in the wrong place,” Andres said, adding that the humanitarian convoy vehicles had a colorful logo on their roofs, and the IDF was aware of the convoy’s location.

On April 1, as a result of Israeli strikes, 7 humanitarian workers were killed when they left the warehouse where they unloaded 100 tons of food delivered to Gaza by sea.

The Israeli army announced that the strike was a “mistake”. Prime Minister of the country Benjamin Netanyahu also said that the attack was not intentional.

Among the victims are 3 British citizens, citizens of Australia, Poland, an employee with dual citizenship of the USA and Canada, and 1 Palestinian.

Israel’s Economy Minister Neil Barkat denied Jose Andres’ accusations that World Central Kitchen workers were deliberately targeted, calling Andres’ comments “nonsense.” In a conversation with the BBC, Barkat said that Israel is “very sorry” for killing 7 humanitarian workers, but “unfortunately, ‘friendly fire’ happens during war.”

According to UN calculations, 196 humanitarian workers were killed in the Gaza Strip during the Israeli military operations after the Hamas attack in October.
