Charita Beroun supports families with children in crisis situations, seniors and homeless people. “We provide a total of eight registered social services,” says Ludmila Hobzová, deputy director of the organization, which is the largest provider of social services in the entire district.
These include field nursing service, Home of St. Anežky Česká with a special regime for seniors who suffer from dementia caused by, for example, Alzheimer’s disease, and Stacionář sv. Agnes for seniors with dementia, social activation services for seniors and people with disabilities. “For homeless people, we also have a low-threshold day center in Beroun, an outreach program or social rehabilitation, and a social-activation service for families with children.” says Hobzová.
Apart from the mentioned registered services, the charity also helps in other areas. “We run children’s groups, we have social housing for mothers with children in an unfavorable social situation, two charitable aid establishments and a sewing workshop,” adds Hobzová, adding that eight dozen employees take care of everything.
31 years already
Charita Beroun has a long history. It was founded already in 1993 under the name Parní charita Beroun. This involved volunteer assistance (for example, collecting clothes) for areas affected by war and natural disasters. Gradually, however, the organization grew and developed; on May 1, 2019, it was renamed Charita Beroun.
In time against social exclusion
The goal of the Social Rehabilitation service is to support people at risk of social exclusion, especially in acquiring or developing skills aimed at independence and self-sufficiency in everyday life, and thus prevent the negative consequences of their unfavorable social situation with timely help.
They also have a sewing workshop
Since 2012, the sewing workshop has been implementing another idea of Carita Beroun. It offered work to disadvantaged people who would hardly be employed in a normal company. He resides in Charity’s house. “Our employees can also provide other work, such as assembling products, sticking products with labels or packaging. We regularly participate in the spring and autumn pottery and craft markets in Beroun,” says Hobzová. The products can also be purchased at the e-shop www.fler.cz/charita-beroun.
