After just seven minutes, the deep D’ Haese took the Patro defense in the back at speed, Heekeren dived at the feet, punished with a penalty. But Dewaele did not get past the goalkeeper from the spot, who saved Patro from an early deficit.

On the fifteen minute mark, a busy Noubissi forced two corner kicks. On one occasion, Renson saw his header blocked on the line by D’Arpino, but Bammens, who replaced the suspended Corstjens, tapped in the rebound: 1-0. Patro relinquished that lead in six minutes around the half hour mark. First, Berte took advantage of the melee in front of goal on a free kick: 1-1. Moments later, the same Berte launched a sharp counter from midfield, finished off by Atanga: 1-2. Van Eenoo scored twice more before half time, but Bossin prevented the equalizer.

Against the post
Patro started the second half sharply, but Bossin held on to a Renson header and a close range shot from Dansoko. Dijkhuizen seemed to head in the equalizer from a corner kick, but the ball bounced against the outside of the post. On the hour mark, Berte failed to score the death blow on the counter.

Patro coach Stijnen brought in Limbombe, Sigurdarson and Hassaini and increased the pressure. But it was Pietermaat who had to block Perez’s shot on the other side of the line. Sigurdarson had a nice shooting opportunity, but shot over uncontrollably while Limbombe hit Bossin’s fists. Five minutes before the end, D’ Arpino Patro counted out from the spot, after Renson got the ball in the arm: 1-3. Sigurdarson eased it to 2-3 and in the absolute final seconds Patro claimed a penalty after a handball (?) but it never came.
