César Vallejo prepares legal action after Paolo Guerrero’s signing for Alianza Lima

The Trujillo club is considering suing for damages following the forward’s departure, while legal experts are weighing in on the viability of a possible lawsuit against Alianza Lima.

The recent resolution issued by the Chamber of Conciliation and Resolution of Disputes of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) has caused a strong stir in national football. On August 22, it was confirmed that Paolo Guerrero, an icon of Peruvian football, was released from his contract with the club. Cesar Vallejowhich opened the possibility of his signing by Alianza Lima in the 2024 Liga 1 Clausura Tournament.

This outcome, however, has not been well received by the César Vallejo club, which has been affected by the abrupt departure of the forward. In response, the Trujillo club is reportedly preparing a lawsuit for damages, not only against Guerrero, but also against Alianza Lima. Argentine lawyer Marcelo Bee Sellares, a specialist in sports law, was consulted about the case and explained the possible legal scenarios that arise.

According to Bee Sellares, the main action that César Vallejo will take will be a lawsuit for the alleged breach of contract by Paolo Guerrero. “The Trujillo club considers that Guerrero’s resignation without financial compensation constitutes a violation of his contractual agreement. Therefore, Vallejo will file a lawsuit before the FPF’s Chamber of Conciliation and Dispute Resolution, arguing that the player has breached his contractual obligations,” said the lawyer.

Regarding the possible involvement of Alianza Lima in this controversy, Bee Sellares was skeptical. Although César Vallejo’s president, Richard Acuña, has pointed out that the signing of the forward by the Lima club could be considered “bad practice,” the Argentine lawyer believes that a lawsuit against Alianza Lima would have little chance of success. “From my point of view, the lawsuit against Alianza Lima would not have a solid basis, since the player decided to voluntarily resign from his previous contract,” he explained.

This legal conflict, which now seems inevitable, could bring significant consequences for all involved. While Paolo Guerrero prepares to possibly wear the Alianza Lima shirt, the looming legal dispute could have a lasting impact on both his career and the relationships between the Peruvian clubs. The next few days will be key to determining whether César Vallejo will follow through with his legal intentions and how this complex case will be resolved in the realm of national football.
