The Cesar department is fine-tuning the details to participate in the Great National Emergency Response Drill, scheduled for October 22, 2025, with the involvement of the majority of its municipalities and the support of public and private institutions and relief organizations.
Of the 25 municipalities of Cesar, 22 have already confirmed their participation, while Valledupar, Codazzi and Becerril are in the process of formalizing their registration. The capital of Caesarea, as it was known, is advancing coordination with private companies and educational entities to achieve broad participation in the exercise.
The head of the Departmental Disaster Risk Management Office, Petra Romero, highlighted the importance of the drill as a citizen preparation tool and not only as a symbolic activity.
“This exercise is an opportunity to measure our level of response to emergencies and save lives. We invite public and private entities and the community in general to join with commitment and responsibility,” said the official.
The drill seeks to strengthen the reaction capacity in situations such as earthquakes, floods or fires, scenarios that are part of the department’s risk context. Relief organizations such as the Red Cross, Firefighters and Civil Defense will accompany evacuation practices, activation of brigades and verification of security protocols.
Romero recalled that the recent earthquakes felt in the region show the need to consolidate a culture of prevention and self-protection among citizens. “Each experience shows us that preparation is the key to reducing the impacts of emergencies.”
The Great National Drill seeks to promote coordination between communities, authorities and companies, with the purpose of strengthening the resilience of Cesar in the face of different natural and anthropic risks, especially in the face of the effects of the winter wave that is passing through the country.
