The General Rapporteur of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Soava Andriamarotafika, made a statement regarding the holding of local elections. According to this General Rapporteur, following a letter from the Prime Minister, which for technical reasons, including the formation of the new government, it is necessary to postpone the local elections. The CENI proposes the date of December 11. However, this should take into account the opinion of the HCC “, he indicated. Furthermore, it is up to him to point out that if this date is maintained, these elections could take place in the middle of a rainy season. In any case, the first date put forward by the electoral commission is November 6. This means that the convening of the electoral colleges should be finalized before August 6. A deadline that seems short since the new government has not yet been formed, which is undoubtedly what necessitated this postponement. Note that the mandate of the mayors ended on January 10, 2024, but the HCC in its opinion of January 25, 2024, in response to the request of the Prime Minister, declares that the mayors and municipal and communal councilors are provisionally maintained in their posts pending the election of their successors.
