Cayetana Chirinos: The young Peruvian athlete continues to break records

The 16-year-old athlete sets a new U18 national record in the 100-meter dash

Cayetana Chirinos never ceases to surprise. The young promise of athletics Peruvian once again broke his own U18 national record in the 100 meter dash, this time within the framework of the Pedro Gálvez Velarde South American Grand Prix held at the Atlético de la Videna Stadium.

With a time of 11.79 seconds, Chirinos not only won the bronze medal in the absolute category, but also came close to the mark required by World Athletics to participate in the Lima 2024 U20 World Cup.

This new achievement adds to a long list of successes for the young athletewho has already broken his own national U18 record on six previous occasions since 2022.

A precocious talent

Despite being only 16 years old, Chirinos has already proven to be one of the most promising athletes in Peru. In September 2023, at just 15 years old, she won the gold medal at the Ibero-American U18 Athletics Championship with a time of 11.90 seconds.

Her talent has led her to train in Brazil under Katsuhico Nakaya, one of the best speed coaches in the world.

Dreams and goals

Chirinos has big dreams for the future. His main objective is to compete at the highest level in the South American U20 Athletics Championships and the Lima 2024 U20 World Cup, which will be held in July and August of this year, respectively.

In the long term, the young athlete aspires to represent Peru in the Olympic Games and become a reference in national athletics.
