Carlos Torres talks about the “whitewashing” of Pedrito in Pedro el Escamoso

Look: What memories do you have of seeing the original version of Pedro el Escamoso?

CT: It’s a project that brings back a lot of nostalgia, and in my case, when I saw a couple of episodes of this new season, it brought back a lot of nostalgia, remembering that I watched it with my family, and I hope this new season achieves that, that the family joins in watching a series. I’m from Barranquilla, I remember that I watched it at home, with my family, with my brothers we imitated him, we did the dance, we talked like him, that ‘mi mompirry’, ‘mi negrito’, ‘másimo’, it brought back a lot of nostalgia, and the twists and turns that life takes, I admire Miguel since then and now I’m Pedro’s son, I never imagined that.

Look: Your choice as Pedrito caused a stir on social media. What do you think about the comments?

CT: We’ve had a lot of fun, not just me, the whole Caracol team, Disney, we knew it was going to happen, we knew the memes were coming and I don’t think they’ve started yet, we’ve already seen a couple, but you do have to understand that it’s a new story and that there are things that have to be risked for the sake of the story, to have something to tell and here what has to be told is that they are opposite poles, that they are completely different people, that their relationship has nothing to do with it, that relationship that you’re going to see in this new season has nothing to do with the first season, it follows the essence of the first season, but the father and son relationship is a completely new story, so things had to be sacrificed to have a story and that’s what happened here and it was worth it because thanks to that we have Pedro back and with a completely fun story.

Look: What’s next for Carlos Torres?

CT: Good things, it has been a year full of a lot of work, we finished Pedro, we are going to shoot a series here in Colombia with another platform, we can’t talk much, but well, some information was leaked. We finished a series for the platform about two months ago, from there we traveled to Miami, I am in Miami right now doing a series for Telemundo that Miguel Varoni is directing me, things in life, now he is my boss, we went from being scene partners to director-actor. We are in Miami until the end of September and we also have a project that is being cooked up as they say out there, so it has been a wonderful year.
