The launch of 3 products at once that use bio materials is the first time for the Unicharm Group. By using Bio Materials derived from sugar cane, limestone, botanical oils and natural resins, these products can reduce the use of materials derived from petroleum.
Unlike petroleum, this natural base material can be renewed. Through this initiative, Unicharm hopes to contribute to creating a sustainable environment.
In a press conference, Tasya Kamila said that solving environmental problems is not enough just from government efforts.
“To overcome environmental problems it is not enough just to make efforts from the government alone. “Every individual, including each of us, must contribute from the small things we can do ourselves, for example reducing the use of plastic bottles and replacing them with tumblers, or bringing tote bags when shopping,” he said.
He added that people can contribute by choosing environmentally friendly products.
“Apart from that, we can also contribute by choosing and using environmentally friendly products, like those launched by Unicharm this time. “We only have one Earth, so if not us, who else will look after it for future generations,” said Tasya.
Regarding the use of Bio Materials, President Director Takumi Terakawa stated that currently there has been a change in consumer awareness of the environment which has increased.
“From the results of the research we conducted, sanitary napkin consumers’ awareness of the environment has doubled in the last 3 years. On the other hand, diapers made from natural materials are also a point of consideration for consumers when choosing baby diapers, where the score has increased 3-fold in the last year.

Observing the change in awareness that has occurred among consumers, coinciding with World Environment Day this year, Unicharm launched the Charm, MamyPoko, and also Kirey Antibacterial Wipes products that use Bio Material. For this reason, the company has been developing products that use Bio Material since 2018. 2022, and by increasing the number of products that use Bio Material.
“We are determined to make a greater contribution to reducing the use of plastic derived from petroleum. “All products from these 3 categories use the Bio Material logo on the packaging to communicate to consumers that these are environmentally friendly products,” he said.
