Carabineros reports 16 detainees for incidents during the commemoration of Workers’ Day

Carabineros de Chile reported the arrest of 16 people amid the disorders recorded this Wednesday, May 1, in the commemoration of Workers’ Day.

The day was marked by the scheduled marches that generally took place without major incidents. However, some incidents were reported near the Brasil and República neighborhoods.

Metro reported that the República, Unión Latinoamericana and Estación Central stations on Line 1 were closed and no trains were stopped during the morning, as was Quinta Normal on Line 5.

According to Carabineros, five people were arrested for carrying incendiary bombs. At the intersection of Matucana and Alameda, two subjects were arrested when they were caught carrying 20 Molotov cocktails. Later at the intersection of Erasmo Escala with Brazil, three people were found with 11 incendiary devices, accelerants and other elements.

Additionally, it was indicated that three subjects were detained for disorders; one for violation of the Ley 20.000; One for identity theft; and two for current arrest warrant.

In addition, so far an attempted looting of a pizza store has been reported, which was thwarted by Carabineros.

Likewise, hooded men carried out disorders at the Central Station, with passengers inside, throwing forceful elements and clashing with police personnel.
