Chandra Wijaya refocus on producing young seeds in the doubles sector. One of them is by holding a prestigious tournament specifically for the doubles sector.

The tournament is the Doubles Special Championships 2024 Presented by Candra Wijaya. The championship is scheduled to take place on September 4-7, 2024 at the Daihatsu Yonex-Sunrise Candra Wijaya International Badminton Center (DYSCWIBC), Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten.

This doubles-only championship will compete in four categories consisting of U-15, U-17, U-19, and Adults. Each category will compete in men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

In addition, there will also be a three on three match that is currently on the rise to enliven this tournament. As for the prize, not only competing for the champion’s trophy, this tournament held in general will compete for a total of Rp265 million.

“Through this championship, we want to provide more opportunities for talented young players, especially in the doubles group, to continue to hone and improve their abilities, and gain more hours of experience,” said Candra at a conference in Jakarta, Monday (26/8/2024).

Candra revealed the reason for only holding the doubles category in this tournament. In addition to being known as one of the legends in the doubles sector, Candra considered the doubles number a sector that must be developed massively.

“History has proven that the doubles sector is an attractive and interesting game, so that many fans are interested and enjoy it. It is also proven that from the past until now Indonesia has reliable and legendary doubles. Not only in men’s doubles, but also in women’s doubles and mixed doubles,” added Candra.

This doubles-only championship was first held in 2009 and took place annually until 2019 except in 2026. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world and also the country, this tournament was forced to take a break and could not be held for three years, 2020-2022.

At the beginning of the event, this event was originally only for men’s doubles. Only starting in 2015, the championship has undergone changes that not only compete in men’s doubles, but also women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

“Starting in 2015, I made a change by competing in women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The reason is because I want the Indonesian doubles sector to continue to be successful. Moreover, recently the women’s doubles and mixed doubles sectors have also often made Indonesia proud with their achievements,” added Candra.
