JAKARTA – For Indonesians, spicy food is considered to increase appetite. It’s not surprising that many people like to add sauce or chili sauce to every food they eat.

However, some say that eating spicy food is dangerous for pregnant women, one of which is that it can interfere with the growth and development of the fetus in the womb.

When pregnant women eat spicy food, the baby is born sooner than the HPL (Expected Birth Day) or prematurely. Does this have any influence?

Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Dr. Ardiansjah Dara Sjahruddin, SpOG explained this.

“Indirectly, it can be dangerous,” said Dr. Dara, quoted from the X account @dokterdara, Saturday (20/4/2024).

According to Dr. Virgins, women and anyone, especially pregnant women whose immune system is somewhat lowered if they eat too spicy food, can easily experience problems with their digestive tract. For example diarrhea.

“The more often he has diarrhea, mucus, it causes pain, and can trigger contractions. “It could be if the mules are extraordinary,” he explained.

Doctor Dara added that when you go to the bathroom more often, the risk of slipping and falling increases.

“Of course, if you fall, contractions can occur and trigger premature labor. But once again, that’s indirect,” he explained.

Doctor Dara recommends that both men and women should avoid consuming food that is too spicy.
