Mice –
Once again heartwarming baby news from Zoo Planckendael in Muizen (Mechelen). A few weeks ago the little camel Zanna was born there. The camel was born after a gestation period of thirteen months. A small hyena was recently born in the zoo.

After a gestation period of thirteen months, camel Neela gave birth to a healthy daughter. He was named Zanna. “The birth was very exciting,” says caregiver Jeroen. “It was raining very hard at that time. As a result, we had to bring Neela and her cub in quickly. We immediately rubbed Zanna warm and gave her the first colostrum.”
Despite that exciting moment at birth, everything turned out fine. “Thanks to the efforts of the entire team of caregivers and veterinarians, the cub is now hopping around enthusiastically,” says Jeroen. “Together with father Vincent and grandmother Badia, Zanna and her mother immediately greet visitors to Planckendael when they enter the park or walk to the continent of Asia.”
It is the second time in a short time that there has been happy baby news from Planckendael. Last week it was announced that a hyena was also born in the park. In a few months the gender can be determined and the little one will also be given a name that starts with the letter Z.
