“CAF” decides on the date for holding the “2025 African Cup” in Morocco

Egypt – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has tentatively settled on the proposed date for organizing the next edition of the Cup of Nations scheduled for 2025, hosted by Morocco, in the months of July and August.

A source in the CAF Competitions Committee revealed to Agence France-Presse “an initial agreement between CAF and the Moroccan Federation to hold the tournament in the summer of 2025, specifically in the months of July and August.”

The source confirmed that “the date was agreed upon under the auspices of the International Federation (FIFA) after consultations that began several months ago and culminated in the holding of the last edition of the continental championship, which concluded this month in Côte d’Ivoire.”

He added, “The currently proposed date is from July 20 to August 16 or 17, 2025.”

Organizing the African Cup next year in Morocco poses various problems. Holding them in January and February leaves little time to organize qualifying competitions, after the dates approved by FIFA last June for the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

While organizing the Africa Cup in June and July 2025 will conflict with the expanded Club World Cup organized by FIFA, which is scheduled to be held in the United States.

It may be impossible to postpone the 2025 Africa Cup until 2026, which will witness the first World Cup in which 48 teams will participate in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
