Egger: The current draft of the directive brings with it bureaucracy and competitive disadvantages
Vienna (OTS) – “The current draft of the EU Supply Chain Act is unacceptable for Austrian companies. As a business association, we support the EU’s plan to protect human rights and the environment along the value chain, but the current draft of the Supply Chain Act is a bureaucratic monster. This imposes liability risks and audit obligations on small and medium-sized businesses in particular, for which they are neither responsible nor able to meaningfully implement them in practice. A situation that would lead to unnecessary and excessive effort and put Austria and Europe behind in international competition. I am confident that agreement on a strong supply chain law that focuses on human rights and the environment is possible without excessive bureaucracy and competitive disadvantages. However, the directive must be renegotiated for this,” said WB Secretary General Abg.z.NR. Kurt Egger.
