Jasprit Bumrah is one of India’s best destructive pacers. His controlled bowling especially in the slog overs is terrifying for any team. That Jasprit Bumrah once thought of moving to Canada and establishing himself as a cricketer there. However, due to his mother, this wish could not be fulfilled by this Indian pacer.
One of the best pacers in the world also started to prepare for crossing to Canada. He had almost finalized plans to leave India before joining IPL franchise Mumbai Indians.
In a recent interview, Bumrah said, ‘All boys want to grow up as cricketers. Wants to play on the big stage. 25 boys playing in every street of the country dream of playing for India. So there should be alternative plans. I have some relatives there (in Canada). So I thought I will finish my studies there. Then I will try the rest from uncle’s house. Our whole family was planning to move to Canada.’
How did the final plan suddenly change, how did Bumrah’s family stay in India? Bumrah also answered that question. He said, ‘My mother later changed her mind. He refused to settle permanently in Canada. Mother does not like the culture there. Mother’s decision also benefited me. So I’m happy. I consider myself lucky. Once there, I would have tried to play for Canada. I was trying to do something good in international cricket for Canada.’
Bumrah said that everyone in the family agreed to move to Canada, but they did not go in the end due to the mother’s objection. Bumrah is grateful for his mother’s decision to gain recognition as a cricketer. He also thinks that his life has changed because of that decision.
Bumrah has played 36 Tests, 89 ODIs and 62 T20 matches for India so far. He has 155 wickets in 125 matches in IPL for Mumbai Indians.
