Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital’s officials said that the death of a patient trapped in the lift is not an institutional mistake. They said that when the lift was shut down after the power went out, the problem was caused by the jostling inside. As a result, it takes 10 to 15 minutes for the elevator to open.
These things were mentioned in a letter sent to the director general of the health department on Sunday (May 12). In the letter, Executive Engineer of Public Works E/M Division 10. Abdul Halim and acting director of the hospital Dr. Md. Signed by Jahangir Alam.
According to the letter, an elevator of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital suddenly got stuck between the ninth and tenth floors at approximately 11:15 am on Sunday with patients and visitors. Initially, when the elevator got stuck between the ninth and tenth floors due to a power outage, the elevator’s ARD (Automatic Rescue Device) required one minute to operate. But the lift’s ‘door safety’ did not work as people, including patients trapped in the lift, kept banging on the doors. Later, before the lift operator manually brought the lift to a floor by hand in the lift machine room, the people including the patient opened the door and came out. In this way, 10-15 minutes are spent to complete all the work.
The letter mentions that the deceased was a heart patient. When he was rushed to the emergency department, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
